MOUNTAIN MAMMA PELVIC HEALTH FAQ
How many visits do I need to get better? How often do I need to attend therapy?
Answer: That depends. Most patients need 3 visits to start things going in the right direction, depending on the severity of your condition, and your dedication and commitment to your home practice. These first 3 sessions would take place within 4-6 weeks, and after that point if there is still some “fine tuning” to take place we will typically space appointments 3-6 weeks out to give you some time to practice and integrate new information and movement into your home practice. For resolution of symptoms 3-10 sessions is the most typical. After your initial evaluation your therapist and you will come up with an individualized plan of care for your specific condition.
Do I need a prescription or referral from my MD to start physical therapy?
Answer: No. Currently Idaho state law permits you to see a physical therapist directly without a referral. If during the evaluative process it is determined that physical therapy would NOT help you with your personal concerns you will be referred to the correct provider. Your insurance provider may require a physician referral before the initial physical therapy consultation for service fees to be covered. It is good to check with your insurance provider regarding coverage of out of network services prior to the beginning of physical therapy.
Can I still come to my physical therapy appointment if I’m on my period?
Answer: Yes! As a skilled medical practitioner I am fully aware of the natural cycles that women go through, and it does not affect your care if you are on your cycle for any of your pelvic health appointments. If you are more comfortable rescheduling that is also an option, however you do not have to.
What can I expect at the first session?
Answer: During your first visit we will review your medical history, what is bringing you to seek pelvic health assistance, and all of your symptoms. We will then perform a physical exam that will be explained in detail before being completed. For every pelvic health patient an internal examination is recommended to get a full picture of what may be contributing to your symptoms, however we can complete the full exam, or any part that you feel comfortable with. Feel free to have a partner, friend, or companion to chaperone as you see fit if that increases your overall comfort level. After discussing your diagnosis and your expected recovery, we will make a specific plan of care, taking into account your lifestyle and concerns. You can expect a lot of education during your first visit along with a few specific activities to practice at home to begin your road to recovery.
Cancellation Policy:
We understand that life happens and things come up. If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment we require 24 hours notice. If we do not receive 24 hours notice that you need to cancel or reschedule a $75 fee will be charged.
